As you have read about our work, some of the directors we were serving told me about residents that didn't come to the programs for one reason or another. How could we serve them? Simple; A guitar, a small stool and some smiley face stickers, and we were in business. I would walk the halls and stop off in the hall or a room. I would play a song they like and have a short visit, then I would place a small smiley face sticker on their shoulder and ask them to be my smiley friend for the day. IT WAS BIG HIT. Before Corona hit I had 5 facilities I visited each week for one hour and gave out over 7000 stickers in 3 years. I was a new friend to many lonely folks. RELIGIOUS OR NOT, IT WORKED WELL FOR ALL.
"With a song by Ed, just for them, residents bask in the special attention; eyes brighten, barriers of reserve drop and conversation begins." Donna S. Austin, TX
"Ed is an amazing individual. He wanders the halls singing to our residents. He brings smiles to their faces and joy to their hearts." Tammy M. Austin, TX
Louie and Lucy were a big part of our big programs as you saw, in What We Offer. We now offer this special treat of entertainment for the one on ones for those in Memory Care. Folks love it.
I graduated from Tennessee Temple, Chattanooga, TN with a Graduate of Theology Degree in August 1976. Shortly after that I was Ordained to the Gospel Ministry in my home church, Pascagoula, MS. I have pastored two churches; one was a Baptist Church and the other was a nondenominational Church. I have worked with a number of different denominational churches.
This is one Degree I received in 2008 which explained how the simple lies people tell themselves can affect our lives in so many destructive ways. This line of teaching material was formulated through the research work done among prison inmates. Therapist all over the world use this type of information in their work.
No one loves a good sermon more than I do; and I have preached my share, but what I have learned in years of ministry, is learning begins with discussion. When a small group takes a passage of Scripture or even some subject, we begin to really learn life changing knowledge when we can ask questions and get other people's insight. This is the method I use in my teaching. Small groups with a starting date and a finish date. Everyone knows the subject and should prepare before class if some reading is required. This way everyone brings knowledge filtered through their unique life. IT WORKS! I taught small groups in our home for a number of years. AND NO-ONE NEEDS TO GIVE ANY MONEY. PEOPLE LOVE IT.
